Star Wars, where science meets imagination is now at the Museum of Science and indistry, Chicago IL.The exhibit runs from October 5th 2007 through January 6, 2008.
Journey through the exhibit and view the props, models, and costumes from all six Star Wars movies and have the opportunity to imagine, create and evaluate new technologies that many of us were introduced to in the films. You'll also have a chance to see extensive interviews with filmmakers, scientists, and engineers.
Explore Behind-the-Scenes
More than 80 props, models and costumes from the original Star Wars films are on display. See the real objects as never before. You'll also learn more about the films through behind-the-scenes interviews with the filmmakers.
The Engineering Design Labs will give you the opportunity to imagine, create and evaluate new technologies.
Imagine. Build. Test.
Throughout the exhibit you’ll be presented with a series of hands-on engineering challenges focused on two key themes:
Getting Around—Explore transportation in the Star Wars films as well as new and future modes of travel
Robots and People—Discover the relationship between intelligent machines and humans on screen and in the real world
The Engineering Design Labs will give you the opportunity to imagine, create and evaluate new technologies.
In the exhibit’s Robot Object Theater, enter a large-scale model of the sandcrawler from Episode IV for an engaging presentation on robots.
Enter the World of Robotics
In the exhibit’s Robot Object Theater, enter a large-scale model of the sandcrawler from Episode IV for an engaging presentation on robots. Inside the dark, rusted-steel interior of the sandcrawler, you’ll come face-to-face with an animatronics version of beloved Star Wars robot, C-3PO. He is joined (via video) by a real-world robotics engineer. The two have a thought-provoking and entertaining discussion on what makes a good robot.
Experience hyperspace from the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon.
A full-size replica of the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon from Episode IV, provides a “jump to lightspeed” experience. In a four and-a-half-minute trip to the edge of the Universe, the multimedia presentation explores what it would take to exceed the speed of light and what we’ve
learned about our own galaxy.
The cockpit features a proprietary sound system from Bose Corporation that debuts the technologies of 3Space™ audio systems, providing visitors with a realistic three-dimensional audio experience.
Please note that the Millennium Falcon experience is separate from the exhibit and open to all guests. However, capacity is limited. The experience does require a free, timed-entry pass, which are available on a first-come, first-served basis at the Millennium Falcon entrance.
ACTIVITIES
The following activities are a fun way to learn about many of the technologies seen in the Star Wars movies. These activities are appropriate in either a classroom or at home and are ideal for children in grades 3-8.
**Robot Vision
Try the online version of this exhibit interactive. See how a robot processes visual information and transforms it into data it can use.
**Pass the Salt: Floating Vehicle Design Challenge
Construct your own floating vehicle that can transport salt across a table. In this activity you will create your own hovercraft with a balloon, a water bottle top, and an old CD.
**Mystery Boxes
In this activity, you will use your senses other than sight to figure out what object is hidden from view. In this way, you will learn how a robot might investigate a similar situation.
To offer further insight into Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination exhibit content, the Museum will offer a variety of special events and programs for members and the community.

1Sounds interesting.
2CBS's Sunday Morning show mentioned this museum last week. The museum's store hot gift item is a light-saber that sells for $100.00+. Unfortunately it's not available online.
Happy Holidays!
